Portland State University’s Smith Memorial Student Union is both a literal and figurative point of connection on this urban campus. A hub for recreation and administrative activities, the building is tied to academic buildings via skybridges, pedestrian plazas, and tunnels. MBA designed aesthetic improvements for the plazas and bridges on each side of Smith Memorial Student Center. These design improvements included new ceiling and lighting treatments, metal panel cladding at key areas, and lighting and color changes to the interior portions of the bridges. For the street level plazas, new benches, landscaping, bike racks, and bollards were also added.
